3 by 3 Is All You Need

Silence is not physical, regardless of how easy it is to break. If anything can happen in three minutes, then a string of three-minute increments is powerful enough to bring possible into the realm of probable.

12:27 - 12:30PM
We created a layer of silence that started off fairly fragile. From our reciprocal stubbornness, and subsequent refusal to be the first to speak, we were able to slowly slather layer upon layer of silence on top of one another until the silence was so thick I thought it possible that we'd never be able to break it. There were words before hand, yes. But for three famous minutes between 12:27 and 12:30PM, there wasn't a word spoken, sound made. No music. No television.

Just silence.

12:30 - 12:33PM
At 12:30PM she spoke. The syrupy silence has coated and deadened the hairs in my inner ear so effectively that the sound of the silence breaking was nearly deafening. Being the bigger man, (as most women are prone to being), she apologized and I did, too. We talked for the remainder of the three minutes about what had happened to cause the silence and cleared the air.

12:33 - 12:36PM
It was as though nothing happened before the "discussion". We were back to the way we were and spent three minutes laughing about something someone had said or done in the store and couldn't believe how funny it was.

Three three-minute intervals. We went from just fine full-circle all the way back to just fine. 3 by 3.
